The perimeter of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran was struck by US military projectiles, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported on the 9th.
According to IRNA, the deputy governor of Bushehr Province for political, security and social affairs said, "This attack, amid continuing US military strikes, is a violation of the ceasefire agreement." He added, "This afternoon, multiple points within Bushehr Province, including the perimeter of the Bushehr nuclear plant, were struck by US military projectiles." Whether the plant was hit or any damage occurred has not been confirmed.
Earlier, local media including the Fars news agency reported that day that "multiple explosions were heard in Bushehr Province, home to Iran's only commercial nuclear power plant."
Three days ago, Iran attacked three oil tankers that had deviated from designated shipping lanes while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the US military carried out airstrikes on military facilities in southern Iran and a railway bridge in the northeast.
Iran retaliated by firing drones and missiles targeting US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, escalating tensions in the Middle East once again.
The Bushehr nuclear plant, located on the Persian Gulf coast in southern Iran, was also attacked several times in March during the early days of the war, but no damage such as radiation leaks was reported.
