U.S. President Donald Trump said he had "heard the news that Walmart, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, will substantially cut prices at the request of our administration," adding that "other retailers should follow the example of these true patriots."
In a Truth Social post Thursday, Trump wrote that "Walmart, in particular, will lower the price of ground beef per pound by nearly 15%," and that it "means a great deal to the millions of Americans who shop at Walmart, a truly patriotic company." U.S. beef prices are currently setting record highs day after day, as the number of cattle being raised has fallen to its lowest level in 75 years.
Trump said, "Our administration is lowering (product) prices that had risen under Joe Biden," sharply criticizing that "(the price increases under Biden) were a complete disaster, along with the southern border crisis and the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan." He claimed, "As I promised, oil prices are plunging rapidly and gasoline prices at the pump are falling. The same goes for the prices of eggs and prescription drugs."
This is seen as an intent to highlight that the current administration is working to reduce the burden of living costs ahead of the November midterm elections.
