The leader of the major Venezuelan crime organization Tren de Aragua (TdA) has been killed in a US military operation.
AFP reported Wednesday that US President Donald Trump disclosed through his social media platform Truth Social that the TdA boss, "Nino Guerrero," had been eliminated.
"The U.S. Southern Command successfully eliminated Nino Guerrero of Tren de Aragua, one of the most brutal terrorist organizations on Earth, through a swift and lethal military strike," Trump said. He also posted aerial footage showing the targeted building exploding.
Trump warned that "Tren de Aragua members will no longer be able to safely hide anywhere, including Venezuela." He added that the operation "was carried out successfully in close cooperation with Venezuela."
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that Guerrero was killed in a US military strike on the organization's stronghold inside Venezuela.
Tren de Aragua is a transnational criminal organization that originated in Venezuela and expanded its influence across Latin America. It is known to have brought members into the United States through human trafficking and illegal immigration networks.
Trump has strongly criticized Latin American crime organizations such as Tren de Aragua for funneling large quantities of drugs into the United States. Shortly after returning to the White House last year, he designated the organization as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" (FTO).
The US government had placed a bounty of $5 million, about 7.6 billion won, on Guerrero, who had been indicted in the United States on charges including organized crime, terrorism, and drug smuggling.
