The White House has released a physician's report stating that U.S. President Donald Trump is in excellent health, amid mounting speculation about his health as he turns 80 next month.
According to Reuters and other outlets on Thursday, the White House released a three-page medical report containing the results of Trump's physical examination late that evening. In the report, presidential physician Sean Barbabella said, "President Trump's cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical examinations resulted in excellent health." He added that the president is "perfectly fit to perform all duties as commander in chief and head of state."
Trump reportedly visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on the 26th for a physical and dental examination. The physician's office explained that this was the third health checkup since the start of his second term, and that 22 specialists from various universities participated in the examination, which included a range of comprehensive preventive diagnostic procedures.
Trump, who turns 80 on June 14, is the oldest person ever to be inaugurated as a U.S. president. Interest in his health has grown after recent observations of ankle swelling, bruises on the back of his hand, and a rash on his neck. Democrats in particular have raised concerns about possible age-related health issues, drawing attention to the results of this examination.
The medical team assessed in the report that Trump's calf swelling has eased compared to last year. Regarding the recurring bruises on the back of his hand, the team explained that they were the result of a combination of aspirin use for cardiovascular disease prevention and minor irritation from frequent handshakes.
Overall cardiac function was also found to be within the normal range, and no abnormalities were detected in the comprehensive neurological examination, which included screenings for depression and anxiety disorders.
Meanwhile, Trump's height was recorded as 6 feet 3 inches (190 cm) and his weight as 238 pounds (108 kg).
