U.S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Zhongnanhai in Beijing on Wednesday, the second day of the U.S.-China summit.
According to the White House pool, the motorcade carrying Trump arrived at Zhongnanhai at 10:56 a.m. local time (11:56 a.m. Korea time). Zhongnanhai, a former imperial garden located west of the Forbidden City, is now the "heart of China's power," housing the Chinese president's office and residence, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and other key power institutions. The two sides are scheduled to hold tea talks followed by a working lunch. Trump will then board Air Force One bound for Washington, D.C.
In a Fox News interview released at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (10 a.m. Korea time), Trump said, "President Xi told me he would not provide military equipment to Iran and said he is willing to help open the Strait of Hormuz." He also said Xi promised to make large purchases of U.S. agricultural products including soybeans and committed to buying 200 Boeing aircraft. "One thing I think we are going to agree on is that they want to buy American oil," Trump said, claiming Chinese ships will begin heading to Texas, Louisiana and Alaska.
