Iran's military met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei and received new guidelines on conducting military operations, foreign media reported.
Reuters reported Tuesday, citing Iran's semi-official Fars news agency, that Ali Abdollahi, commander of Khatam al-Anbiya (Iran's Joint Chiefs of Staff), briefed Mojtaba on the military's state of readiness. Fars did not specify when the meeting took place.
"Iran's military is prepared to respond to any action by the United States and Zionist (Israeli) enemies," Abdollahi said. "If the enemies make a mistake, Iran will respond swiftly, powerfully and decisively."
With the war continuing for more than two months, Iran has yet to issue an official position on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) proposed by the United States to end the conflict. The Iranian military has repeatedly emphasized that it will respond forcefully if the United States launches another attack.
According to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency, Iranian Army spokesperson Mohammad Akramnia said, "If the enemy miscalculates again and invades our territory, they will face an unexpected response." He added that "this will include new weapons, new tactics and new battlefields."
More than two months after being selected as supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public or had his voice released. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that he had met with Mojtaba Khamenei. That marked the first time Iranian authorities officially disclosed a meeting between Mojtaba Khamenei and a senior official.
