Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is visiting Pakistan, has conveyed Tehran's position on ending the war to Pakistani officials.
According to Reuters and other outlets, Araghchi met with Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir on Wednesday local time and relayed Iran's views and considerations regarding a ceasefire. Munir is regarded as a key figure mediating negotiations between the United States and Iran. The meeting was also attended by senior Pakistani diplomatic and security officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and National Security Adviser Asim Malik.
Araghchi is said to have conveyed to Pakistani officials Iran's reservations about U.S. demands along with Tehran's own requirements for negotiations. Iran's foreign ministry said Munir told Araghchi that he would continue his mediation efforts until results were achieved. Araghchi, who arrived in Pakistan the previous day, is also reported to have met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Araghchi's unannounced visit to Pakistan the previous day had raised expectations of a possible second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, but he made clear that he would not engage in direct talks.
