U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled the possibility of resuming negotiations with Iran soon, following the breakdown of the first ceasefire talks between the two countries.
"Something could happen in the next two days, and it's more likely we're going there," Trump said in a phone interview with the New York Post on Wednesday (local time). He added that "the chances are high because the field marshal is doing very well."
The remarks came during a conversation with a reporter based in Islamabad, Pakistan. The New York Post reported that Trump called back after completing the interview to make these comments.
In the earlier call, Trump said, "Things are happening, but as you know, a little slow." He added that "the next meeting will likely be held in a different location, not Pakistan."
The United States and Iran had held 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, on Sunday and Monday but failed to reach an agreement, confirming only mutual distrust and differences.
