U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated on the 14th (local time) that President Donald Trump is seeking a "comprehensive agreement" rather than a "small deal" in negotiations with Iran.
Vice President Vance attended a "Turning Point USA" event in Georgia that day and said, "When the president wants to make a deal, he doesn't want a small deal. He wants to make a grand bargain."
He led the U.S. delegation in the first ceasefire negotiations with Iran held last weekend through Pakistan's mediation, and it is reported that he will likely continue to lead the negotiating team if future talks resume.
Vice President Vance explained, "What he (President Trump) is basically offering Iran is very simple," adding, "If you (Iran) are willing to act like a normal country, we are willing to treat you economically like a normal country."
He continued, "The reason a deal hasn't been reached yet is because the president genuinely wants an agreement where Iran does not have nuclear weapons," emphasizing, "He (President Trump) is saying, 'If you promise not to possess nuclear weapons, we will make Iran prosperous.'"
He added, "We will make Iran economically prosperous (if Iran gives up nuclear weapons), and we will invite the Iranian people into the global economy."
