U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday (local time) that "the world's most powerful U.S. Navy will immediately begin blockade measures on all ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz."
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that "negotiations went well and most items were agreed upon, but the only really important matter—nuclear—was not."
"Someday we will reach a stage where all ships are allowed in and out, but Iran has blocked this with a single phrase that 'there might be mines somewhere' that only they know about," he said. "This is extortion against the world, and leaders of countries, especially the United States, will never be extorted."
Trump also said, "I have ordered our Navy to find and block in international waters all ships that have paid tolls to Iran," adding that "anyone who has paid illegal tolls will not have safe passage in international waters."
