Iran is positively reviewing Pakistan's proposal for a two-week ceasefire, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing a senior Iranian official.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that "President Donald Trump is aware of the proposal and will respond soon," according to Reuters.
On the same day, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Diplomatic efforts to resolve the war peacefully are being pursued steadily and vigorously, and there is a possibility of achieving tangible results in the near future." He added: "I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline by two weeks so that diplomatic efforts can stay on track."
Sharif also wrote: "I sincerely ask our Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks as a gesture of goodwill," and emphasized: "I urge all belligerents to observe a ceasefire across all areas for two weeks."
In an NBC interview the same day, President Trump called the "human chains" formed by Iranian civilians at power plants and bridges "completely illegal," saying "such actions will not be permitted." In a subsequent Fox News interview, he said: "Right now, we are in intense negotiations with Iran."
