Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is set to be renamed "Donald Trump International Airport."
According to Reuters, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill passed by the state legislature containing the name change on Friday. The renaming will be finalized after approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and updates to aviation maps and navigation databases. The Republican-controlled Florida state legislature has been actively attaching the name of President Trump, who is a resident of the area, to public facilities. Florida previously renamed the road connecting Palm Beach International Airport to Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence "Trump Boulevard." The road was originally called "Southern Boulevard." The Florida state House of Representatives also introduced a bill to change the airport's code from PBI to DJT, Trump's initials.
The U.S. federal government has also been using President Trump's name for various projects. The Kennedy Center, a performing arts venue in Washington, D.C., was renamed the "Trump-Kennedy Center" through a board resolution. The venue has served as a cradle of American performing arts since 1964, drawing considerable pushback from some in the cultural community. However, the name change passed unanimously after pro-Trump figures took control of the board.
The U.S. Treasury Department has also fueled controversy by announcing plans to print President Trump's signature on newly issued dollar bills commemorating the 250th anniversary of America's founding. It would be the first time a sitting president's signature has been printed on U.S. currency since the nation's founding. The Trump administration previously announced plans to mint coins bearing President Trump's face as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
