Passenger train service connecting Beijing and Pyongyang will resume on January 12 after approximately six years of suspension.
Kyodo News reported on January 10, citing Chinese officials. The passenger train linking Pyongyang and Beijing was suspended in January 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Chinese visitors comprised the largest group of foreign tourists to North Korea before the country restricted foreign visits due to COVID-19," Kyodo News reported. "North Korea has not accepted Chinese tourists since the pandemic, but bilateral relations are expected to become more active going forward."
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Beijing last September, their first meeting in about six years, signaling a restoration of bilateral ties.
