President Donald Trump declared that U.S. ammunition stockpiles are at historic highs, asserting the country can wage war "forever."
The remarks appear aimed at dispelling concerns that a prolonged conflict with Iran could deplete America's inventory of expensive, high-specification weapons.
"The United States has unlimited mid-to-high grade weapons," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday. "The Wall Street Journal article is wrong and disgraceful."
The WSJ had previously reported that dwindling U.S. stockpiles of air defense interceptor missiles and sea-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles could limit Trump's options in a protracted conflict.
American strategic assets carry substantial price tags. The B-2 strategic bomber costs approximately $2 billion per unit, while F-22 fighters run about $150 million each. Losses would deal significant blows to both military capability and finances. Patriot interceptor missiles cost between $1.5 million and $4.5 million per unit.
By contrast, Iran's Shahed-136 suicide drones cost roughly $22,000 each. Tehran has also enhanced domestically developed ballistic missiles after acquiring them at low cost, enabling relatively cost-effective combat.

Trump reposted a late-night Truth Social message in which he stated: "America's mid-to-high grade ammunition stockpile is better than ever. Based on reports I received today, we have virtually unlimited supplies of these weapons."
He added: "This stockpile alone could sustain a war forever, very successfully."
Regarding top-tier weapons, Trump acknowledged: "We have good stockpiles, but not at the level we want. Many additional high-grade weapons are stockpiled in outside countries." The statement suggests potential plans to relocate premium munitions from abroad for use against Iran.
Trump criticized predecessor Joe Biden for supplying Ukraine with high-grade weapons free of charge while neglecting replenishment efforts.
"Fortunately, I rebuilt the military during my first term and continue to do so," Trump said. "America is stockpiled and ready to win big."
