Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has died, a senior Israeli official told Reuters on the 28th (local time). U.S. President Donald Trump also said he believes the reports of Khamenei's death are accurate, NBC News reported.
According to Reuters, the senior Israeli official said Khamenei's body had been found. However, Reuters added that Iran has not immediately confirmed Khamenei's status. Iranian state media, citing a spokesman for the Supreme Leader's office, said: "Enemies are waging psychological warfare, and we must be vigilant."
Trump told NBC News in an interview that regarding reports of Khamenei's death from U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, "We think that's accurate."
In a separate interview with ABC News, when asked whether Iranian leadership figures had been killed, Trump said, "A lot of leadership, yes," adding, "But we don't know everything."
When asked about the composition of Iran's next leadership, Trump said, "We have a very good idea."
A U.S. government official told Fox News they believe Khamenei and five to ten other Iranian leadership figures have been killed.
U.S. Central Command announced at 1:22 p.m. Eastern Time (3:22 a.m. Korea Time on the 1st): "No U.S. military casualties or combat-related injuries have been reported. Damage to U.S. facilities was minimal."
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. The strait handles 20-30% of global seaborne oil shipments, and the blockade is expected to put upward pressure on prices when oil futures markets open.
IRGC Major General Ebrahim Jabbari told Al Mayadeen TV: "Following the invasion of Iran, the Revolutionary Guards have implemented a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz."
