Iran launched an immediate missile counterattack on the morning of the 28th (local time) in response to surprise strikes by the United States and Israel, the Israeli military said.
In a statement, the Israeli military said missiles fired from Iran toward Israeli territory had been detected and that air defense systems were activated to intercept them.
The military issued air raid warnings across the country through its Home Front Command and sent alert messages via mobile phones, urging residents to "evacuate to a safe location immediately upon receiving the warning." Air raid sirens sounded in major Israeli cities including Tel Aviv.
Iran's response came approximately one and a half hours after its capital Tehran was bombed at 10 a.m.
According to RIA Novosti, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command stated that "multiple military and administrative facilities in Tehran and other cities were attacked" and vowed to "respond soon."
