U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on securing a supermajority for the first time since World War II.
"Her bold and wise election decision paid off big," Trump wrote on Truth Social on the 8th (local time), celebrating "her landslide victory."
"I hope she succeeds in passing her conservative peace through strength agenda," Trump said. "The great people of Japan, who voted with passion, will always have my strong support."
In Japan's House of Representatives election held on the 8th, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party won a landslide victory, far exceeding the two-thirds majority required to initiate constitutional amendments. Prime Minister Takaichi has expressed her intention to transform Japan into a nation capable of waging war through constitutional revision. Some interpret Trump's remarks about hoping for success in "passing the conservative peace through strength agenda" as lending support to constitutional amendment efforts.
