U.S. President Donald Trump said he spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discussed a possible visit to China in April and additional Chinese purchases of American agricultural products.
"Just finished a very excellent call with President Xi," Trump said on Truth Social on Friday (local time). "It was a lengthy and very comprehensive call, covering many topics, including trade, military, an April visit to China, Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine War, the current Iran Situation, China's purchase of Oil & Gas from the U.S., China considering additional agricultural purchases, and the supply of aircraft engines. All very positive!"
Trump added that he is "very excited" about the potential April visit to China. He also claimed the discussions included increasing Chinese imports of U.S. soybeans to 20 million tons for the current season, and that China committed to importing 25 million tons in the following season.
"The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is a very friendly one, and both of us recognize how important it is that it stays that way," Trump emphasized. "I believe the remaining 3 years of my Presidential term will see many positive developments with President Xi and with China."
Earlier, China's Xinhua News Agency reported that Xi held a video summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin before speaking with Trump.
