Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported on the evening of the 4th that President Xi Jinping spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The call came immediately after Xi held a video conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting with Putin, Xi stated that "China-Russia relations are moving forward on the right track," emphasizing the need for both countries to continue deepening strategic communication. Putin called Xi a "dear friend," saying that amid intensifying global turbulence, the diplomatic policy alliance between the two countries remains an important stabilizing factor and that their partnership is exemplary.
