The cumulative number of account holders at Toss Securities has surpassed 10 million. The user base, once centered on people in their 20s and 30s, has also expanded to those aged 40 and older.
Toss Securities said on the 6th that its cumulative number of users had exceeded 10 million as of last month. The milestone comes 5 years and 4 months after the company launched its mobile trading system (MTS) in March 2021.
After reaching 7 million users in June last year, an additional 3 million joined over the following 13 months. Monthly active users (MAU) totaled 6.5 million in July. Based on Korea's population of about 51.6 million, a simple calculation shows that one in five Koreans holds a Toss Securities account.
The distribution of users by age has also changed. The share of those in their 20s and 30s, which was about 70% in the early days of the launch, has now fallen to about 50%. Instead, those aged 40 and older accounted for about 43% of all users.
The pace of new sign-ups among middle-aged and older users also outstripped that of those in their 20s. In the first half of this year, new users in their 50s increased about threefold from the same period last year. Those aged 60 and older grew about fourfold. Over the same period, new users in their 20s increased about twofold.
Toss Securities cited improved investment accessibility through an intuitive screen layout as the reason behind the growth in users. The company offers mobile and PC trading services, and since last year has sequentially introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-based information services such as "AI Earnings Call," "AI Signal," and "Real-Time Issues."
"We will enhance access to investment information and grow into a platform where anyone can invest easily and conveniently," Toss Securities CEO Kim Kyu-bin said.
