Sealy, a global premium mattress brand, has completed a large-scale production base in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, and is stepping up its push into the Asian market.
Sealy said on the 5th that it had completed a new production plant in Ogeum-dong, Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province. The new plant was built on a site of about 29,990 square meters, with a production area of 15,183 square meters. The production area is roughly double that of the existing plant in Ganam-eup, Yeoju (7,920 square meters), making it the largest among Sealy's production bases in Asia.
The new plant is equipped with an integrated production system that handles the entire process in one place, from raw material management to manufacturing, quality and safety inspection, finished product management and shipment. Through this, the company plans to enhance productivity and quality competitiveness and respond to rising domestic demand and expanded supply to overseas markets.
Sealy explained that it strengthened its premium mattress quality competitiveness at the plant by applying its proprietary "Posturepedic" technology and a hand-crafted production method carried out by skilled workers. It also strengthened quality and safety management for major raw and subsidiary materials and finished products.
The investment was made based on the strategic judgment of the global headquarters and the Asia-Pacific regional headquarters, which highly valued the growth potential of the Korean market and the manufacturing capabilities of Sealy Korea. The company plans to develop Korea beyond a domestic production base into a key production hub that supplies products to major Asian markets including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The company is also expanding its supply chain competitiveness. Sealy is pursuing the construction of a spring production plant on a site adjacent to the new plant, targeting completion in 2028. Through this, the company plans to expand the in-house production of core components and upgrade its production capacity, logistics efficiency and quality management system.
Sealy Korea began its domestic business by establishing a corporation in 1996 and re-establishing a joint venture corporation in 2008. It later built its first own plant in Yeoju in 2016, establishing a domestic production system.
"The new Yeoju plant is a key base for realizing Sealy's global quality standards and future growth strategy, beyond an expansion of production facilities," said Yoon Jong-hyo, CEO of Sealy Korea. "We will stably supply products to domestic customers while developing Korea into a production hub connecting major Asian markets."
