Jeju Air (089590), South Korea's leading low-cost carrier (LCC), is launching a connecting-flight service with Air Premia across routes linking Asia and the Americas.
Jeju Air and Air Premia said on the 24th that they will begin the route-connection service starting August 1. The service allows travelers to use both airlines' routes on a single ticket.
Specifically, passengers arriving at Incheon Airport on Jeju Air can immediately board Air Premia's U.S. routes to Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Washington, D.C. Those using Air Premia's U.S. routes can also purchase tickets for the more than 40 international routes operated by Jeju Air—including Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, and Indonesia—as well as domestic routes such as Incheon–Jeju.
Baggage connection service applies differently depending on the connecting segments. For international-to-international connections, baggage can be checked through from the point of departure to the final destination. When a domestic route is included, baggage connection service is not provided. However, for departures from or arrivals into the United States, under international rules, Air Premia's free checked-baggage allowance applies equally across all segments, including outbound and return flights.
Jeju Air expects strong synergy, as its own services—strong in short-haul operations—combine with Air Premia, which specializes in long-haul routes to the Americas. Including Air Premia, Jeju Air operates connecting flights with 21 airlines such as Air Canada, United Airlines, and the Lufthansa Group, giving it the most partners among South Korea's LCCs.
