The stocks most heavily bought by high-return investors trading at Mirae Asset Securities on the morning of the 20th were Samsung Electronics, SK Square and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, in that order.
According to Mirae Asset Securities that day, the stock most bought by the 20th until 11 a.m. by "stock masters" — the top 1% of the firm's stock trading customers by investment return over the past month — was Samsung Electronics (005930.KS). As of 11 a.m., Samsung Electronics was trading at 246,750 won, down 3.24% from the previous session.
Samsung Electronics' share price has undergone a significant correction recently amid weakness in U.S. chip stocks, concerns over a peak in artificial intelligence (AI) chips, and geopolitical risks in the Middle East, and the buying is interpreted as bargain hunting. With the KOSPI plunging more than 4% that day, the stock masters also appeared to bet on the possibility of a rebound.
The second most net-bought stock was SK Square. As of 11 a.m., SK Square was trading at 1,187,000 won, down 2.06% from the previous session. Samsung Electro-Mechanics ranked third in net buying. Samsung Electro-Mechanics showed a relatively firm trend, recording 1,281,000 won, up 0.31%. In addition, Samsung SDS, SK Eternix, Daeduck Electronics and Isu Petasys were among the top net-bought stocks.
By contrast, the most net-sold stock that day was SK hynix. As of 11 a.m., SK hynix (000660.KS) was trading at 1,784,000 won, down 3.15% from the previous session. Unlike Samsung Electronics, which topped net buying, SK hynix ranked first in net selling among the stock masters as profit-taking continued.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix earlier closed down 8.77% and 11.53%, respectively, on the 16th of this month. Lee Kyoung-min, a researcher at Daishin Securities, said, "It is true that concerns over the semiconductor industry passing its peak are growing as TSMC's recent investment expansion is being read as an increase in supply." He added, "However, earnings volatility has been limited so far, and we expect earnings forecasts to trend upward and increase through next year. We believe that a reversal in chip prices falling due to supply expansion, or a peak-out of the industry cycle, is still an unfounded worry."
Samsung Electronics preferred shares and Tes ranked second and third in net selling, respectively. In addition, Hana Micron, VM and Doosan Enerbility were among the top net-sold stocks.
On the previous trading day (the 16th), the top net-bought stocks were Alteogen, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics preferred shares, in that order, while the top net-sold stocks were SK hynix, LG Energy Solution and Doosan, in that order.
