
GC Biopharma will establish a priority supply system for the core consumables needed to produce its blood-derived product Alyglo with global life sciences company Cytiva. The two companies will also expand technical cooperation to develop next-generation manufacturing processes for messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and cell and gene therapy (CGT).
GC Biopharma said on the 16th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 15th at Cytiva's Asia Pacific (APAC) Fast Trak Center in Songdo, Incheon, to stabilize the biopharmaceutical supply chain and cooperate on process technology.
The agreement was arranged to mark the 30th anniversary of the partnership since the two companies first began transactions in 1996. The two firms will pursue cooperation measures to respond to volatility in the global biopharmaceutical supply chain and to strengthen GC Biopharma's manufacturing competitiveness.
First, the companies will establish a priority supply system for major biopharmaceutical production consumables, including virus-removal filters essential to producing Alyglo, GC Biopharma's flagship product in the U.S. market. The plan is to lower the risk of disruptions in the supply of raw and subsidiary materials, thereby enhancing the global supply stability of Alyglo.
In addition, the companies will strengthen technical cooperation using Cytiva's Songdo Fast Trak Center. They plan to expand technical support and training programs to optimize mRNA and CGT production processes, and to continue cooperation in the field of process development.
Cytiva is a life sciences company under the Danaher Group that provides the technologies and services needed across the entire process from biopharmaceutical development to commercial production. Its Songdo Fast Trak Center supports process development, technology transfer, and training of production personnel.
"Through this agreement, we will strengthen the foundation for a stable global supply of Alyglo and also enhance our competitiveness in developing and producing next-generation biopharmaceuticals," said Shin Woong, head of the operations division at GC Biopharma.
