Kyobo Life Insurance said on the 13th that it has held the "42nd Kyobo Life Cup Dream Tree Sports Festival," Korea's only private national comprehensive youth sports event. About 5,000 elementary school athletes from across the country participated in this year's event, which opened on the 9th, competing over one month in seven basic events including gymnastics, track and field, judo and tennis.
The competition, which began in 1985, has drawn about 155,000 student athletes to date. Of these, about 500 have grown into national team members. Kyobo Life also operates a scholarship program to nurture promising athletes. It provides scholarships for six years of middle and high school, and pays separate scholarships to those selected for the national team who place in international competitions.
