Daewoong Pharmaceutical's botulinum toxin product Nabota has surpassed 1 trillion won in cumulative sales about 12 years after its domestic launch. The company plans to become a global integrated aesthetics firm through production facility expansion and next-generation product development.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical said on the 13th that Nabota's cumulative sales exceeded 1 trillion won as of the 30th of last month. Nabota is currently sold under the same brand name in Korea and some overseas markets, while it is distributed as "Jeuveau" in the United States and "Nuceiva" in Europe.
After its domestic launch in 2014, Nabota became the first Asian botulinum toxin product to receive product approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2019, marking the start of its full-scale overseas expansion. It has also secured approvals from major regulatory agencies, including the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Health Canada.
As global sales grew, the average annual sales growth rate from 2019 to last year reached 57%. Last year, the single product surpassed 200 billion won in annual sales. In the United States, partner company Evolus sells Jeuveau, and the product is continuously expanding to more countries across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. Daewoong Pharmaceutical currently has contracts with partners in about 80 countries and has secured approvals for its botulinum toxin products in 69 countries.
To meet the growing global demand, the company is also building a new toxin-only plant targeted to begin operations in 2027. Once the new plant is operational, production capacity, currently at about 5 million vials annually, will expand to a total of 16 million vials. The new plant will introduce aseptic filling, packaging automation equipment, and a digital quality control system, and will also establish facilities capable of producing next-generation toxin formulations.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical plans to expand its medical aesthetics business, including skin boosters, fillers, and cosmetics, centered on Nabota. The company plans to develop skin boosters using biodegradable materials and bio-material-based cosmetics and filler products, and to cultivate a next-generation toxin applying gene recombination technology as a future growth engine.
Yoon Jun-soo, head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical's Nabota Business Division, stressed, "The 1 trillion won in cumulative sales is an achievement created by Nabota's quality competitiveness and global market strategy," adding, "We will expand our overseas markets and aesthetics portfolio to grow Nabota into a global blockbuster brand with annual sales of 500 billion won by 2030."
