Yang Jong-hee, chairman of KB Financial Group (105560.KS), has instructed the group's executives to redesign their business structure in response to artificial intelligence (AI) transformation and the "money move." Yang stressed that core businesses across affiliates—including wealth management (WM), pensions, corporate finance, capital markets, and insurance—must be organically connected.
KB Financial said on the 12th that it held the "2026 Second-Half Group Executive Workshop" from the 10th to the 11th at the KB Injaenium training center in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province, with about 270 group executives in attendance. The workshop was arranged to detail the group's mid- to long-term growth strategy and to strengthen competitiveness based on collaboration among affiliates.
The workshop focused on the direction of the mid- to long-term management strategy for 2027 to 2029, which is currently being formulated. The key agenda items for the mid- to long-term management strategy included redesigning the WM and pension business model, strengthening sales competitiveness for small and medium-sized corporations, reinforcing the group's corporate and investment banking (CIB) and capital markets collaboration system, advancing insurance and investment management capabilities, and accelerating the group's AI transition.
The executives in attendance reviewed the execution tasks for each affiliate to respond to structural changes in the financial industry, such as capital market expansion, the money move, the spread of AI technology, changes in the digital finance ecosystem, and the strengthening of productive finance.
Yang urged executives to redesign their work methods based on collaboration among affiliates. "The money move is an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of WM and asset management, and productive finance will be a turning point that expands the role of KB's CIB and small and medium-sized enterprise business," he said. He added, "The greatest strength of a financial group is that it can present comprehensive financial solutions to customers," and, "To respond to the era of the great AI transition and the money move, all affiliates must move together with the customer at the center."
In an expert lecture under the theme "AI Redesigns Every Industry," Kim Dong-won, head of the research division at KB Securities, examined the future changes in various industries, including finance and healthcare, driven by AI.
Meanwhile, KB Kookmin Bank will implement a special debt relief program starting on the 13th to support the economic recovery of basic livelihood recipients and the near-poor. Those selected through a screening process can receive relief of up to 90% of the principal on special claims. Special claims refer to debts that financial firms have deemed unrecoverable, processed as losses, and transferred to debt collection companies and the like.
