The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation has demonstrated results in talent development, supporting some 10,000 people with 91.5 billion won over 15 years. The foundation plans to evolve its programs from a scholarship-centered approach into a platform for building an innovation ecosystem.
The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation said on the 10th that it held the "Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Scholarship Achievements and Strategy Presentation" the previous day at Ondream Society in Myeong-dong, Seoul. The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Scholarship was launched in 2021 through a reorganization of the existing scholarship foundation. It has selected 1,079 fellows across six fields—science and technology, culture and arts, international cooperation, global, heroes, and social innovation—and has provided 64.2 billion won in support.
In the science and technology field, achievements included 231 SCI-level papers as first author and 159 oral presentations at international conferences. In the culture and arts field, recipients won more than 50 awards at international competitions. The foundation also supported the emergence of world-class artists such as pianist Lim Yun-chan and cellist Han Jae-min. In the international cooperation field, 55% of program graduates went on to work at international organizations and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). The global field has supported students from eight ASEAN developing countries studying in Korea. The heroes field provided mentoring at the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics (LSE), among other programs, for children of firefighters, police, and coast guard officers who died in the line of duty or were injured on duty. In the social innovation field, the foundation nurtured 137 impact company teams, creating 847 jobs, recording 206.7 billion won in revenue and attracting 99.9 billion won in investment.
The foundation also announced its plan to move beyond scholarship support toward a full-cycle development system that supports learning environments, experiences, networking, and career paths together. It also decided to introduce the "CMK Talent Development Venture Studio" to connect individual scholars' growth, social innovation, and a virtuous cycle in the global ecosystem. In addition, the foundation set its future talent brand as "Future Maker" and presented its core competencies as "3I" (Impact Maker, Innovation Maker, Integration Maker).
