
Hoban Group, which held about 18% of Hanjin KAL, has raised its stake to around 20% through additional open-market share purchases. As a result, the gap with Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae's side narrowed to 0.41 percentage point. Hanjin KAL shares surged in the Nextrade (NXT) aftermarket.
According to the Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System (DART) on the 10th, Hoban Group's stake in Hanjin KAL rose to 20.15% from the previous 18.46%. Based on recent disclosures, Chairman Cho and related parties hold 20.56% of Hanjin KAL shares. The gap between the two sides has narrowed to 0.41 percentage point.
Hoban Group holds its Hanjin KAL stake through Hoban Construction, Hoban, Hoban Hotels & Resorts, and Hoban Industries. Of these, Hoban Hotels & Resorts and Hoban Industries recently made steady open-market purchases to acquire Hanjin KAL shares. Hoban Group's holdings in Hanjin KAL increased by 1,132,900 shares from the previous 12,321,774 shares to 13,454,674 shares.
By Hoban Group affiliate, Hanjin KAL holdings stand at 7,676,827 shares for Hoban Construction, 5,566,702 shares for Hoban Hotels & Resorts, 112,145 shares for Hoban Industries, and 99,000 shares for Hoban. Their respective stakes are 11.50%, 8.34%, 0.17%, and 0.15%. Hoban Group described the reason for the stake change as "a simple additional acquisition through open-market purchases and the addition of special-relationship parties," and listed the holding purpose as simple investment.
As the stake gap between Hoban Group and Chairman Cho's side narrowed, Hanjin KAL shares have been surging. The stake of Chairman Cho and related parties stands at 31.14%. As of 4:44 p.m. on the 10th, Hanjin KAL was trading at 146,000 won in the NXT aftermarket, up 15.87% from the previous trading day.
