Coupang (CPNG) will launch "Rocketpay," a payment service usable both online and offline, in the second half of this year, the company said on the 10th.
Coupang's Rocketpay will support integration with payment methods customers prefer, including bank accounts, credit and debit cards, and stored balances. It also offers various payment authentication methods, providing both security and convenience. The Coupang Pay service previously used on Coupang, Coupang Play, and Coupang Eats can now be used offline and at merchants outside Coupang as well.
Coupang applied to Rocketpay its experience of operating tens of trillions of won in annual payment traffic without interruption. The company has a real-time fraudulent payment monitoring system running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as well as the capability to respond immediately to disruptions.
In line with this service expansion and revamp, Coupang also unveiled a new brand identity. By using the rocket directly in its symbol and brand name, the company sought to convey its intention to deliver customer delight through fast-paced innovation. Rocketpay will begin with online merchant services and gradually expand to offline payments.
"Rocketpay has evolved beyond payments within Coupang into an everyday payment method that can be used anywhere in customers' daily lives," a Coupang official said. "We will provide a customer-centric service that offers great benefits wherever it is used."
