S-Oil (010950.KS) delivered 285 million won in donations to protect endangered natural monuments to environmental organizations including the Korea Otter Protection Association, the Korea Freshwater Fish Conservation Association, the Natural Monument Insect Research Institute, and the Korea Terrapin Protection Association, in a ceremony held with the Korea Heritage Service on Wednesday at the main auditorium of its headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul. The event also featured the inauguration of 40 members of the "University Student Natural Monument Guardians," who will participate in natural heritage conservation activities.
The donations will be used for protection and research activities for five endangered natural monument species, including otters, cranes, golden mandarin fish, longhorn beetles, and terrapins, as well as for operating the University Student Natural Monument Guardians and volunteer activities involving employees' families.
S-Oil has continuously supported natural monument protection activities since 2008, taking a leading role in biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. Its major activities include supporting research on endangered natural monuments, operating the University Student Natural Monument Guardians, organizing volunteer activities for employees' families, and running natural monument classes for children from low-income families. The company has provided a total of 3.98 billion won over 18 years.
"Thanks to the efforts of all those involved who have dedicated themselves to ecosystem conservation and research activities under difficult conditions, the populations of endangered species have recovered and a healthy ecosystem has been maintained," said Ryu Yeol, president of S-Oil.
