The stocks most heavily net-bought by high-return investors trading at Mirae Asset Securities (006800.KS) on Tuesday morning were Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), SK hynix (000660.KS), and Samsung Electronics Preferred (005935.KS), in that order.
According to Mirae Asset Securities, Samsung Electronics was the most-bought stock as of 11 a.m. among "stock masters" — the top 1% of the brokerage's trading clients by investment returns over the past month.
Samsung Electronics was trading at 314,500 won as of 11 a.m., up 1.62% from the previous session. Meritz Securities on Tuesday projected Samsung Electronics' second-quarter operating profit at 90.1 trillion won, exceeding the market consensus of 75 trillion to 84 trillion won. Its pre-provision operating profit in the DS division for the second quarter was estimated at 109.5 trillion won.
"Samsung Electronics' second-quarter operating profit is expected to significantly exceed market expectations, following the previous quarter," Meritz Securities analyst Kim Sun-woo said. "This is attributable to memory prices and shipments once again far outpacing the industry average." Judging that the memory cycle has not yet even reached its midpoint, he recommended aggressively increasing exposure to Samsung Electronics, which is showing the strongest pace of earnings improvement.
SK hynix ranked second in net buying. At the same time, SK hynix shares were trading at 2.396 million won, down 1.20% from the previous session. SK hynix plans to list American depositary receipts (ADRs) worth $29 billion (about 44.2 trillion won) on the Nasdaq market on the 10th of this month. Bloomberg reported Monday that the offering could be the largest ever first stock sale by a foreign company. The ADR listing will secure not only regular trading hours but also eligibility for inclusion in major indexes such as the Nasdaq 100, raising expectations for mechanical buying demand from exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track them.
Samsung Electronics Preferred ranked third in net buying. Shares of Samsung Electronics Preferred, a preferred stock of Samsung Electronics, were trading at 210,500 won, up 1.20% from the previous session. Amid a rally led mainly by the common shares of large-cap semiconductor stocks, preferred shares are seen as increasingly attractive on relative undervaluation. In particular, analysts say the disparity ratio with preferred shares has widened as funds flowing into ETFs — which have emerged as the center of the domestic market's supply-and-demand structure — have concentrated on common shares.
The top net-sold stocks on the day were Kia (000270.KS), Lemon Healthcare (365660.KQ), and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS). In the previous session, net buying was highest for DB HiTek (000990.KS), SK (034730.KS), and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, while the top net-sold stocks were Samsung Electronics, Korea Circuit (007810.KS), and POSCO Holdings (005490.KS).
