The Korea Senior Citizens Association will more aggressively push its membership doubling campaign, aiming to reach 8 million members by September this year.
Lee Jung-keun, chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, said Tuesday at the "2026 First Membership Doubling Campaign Awards Ceremony and Meeting" that the association would devote all its efforts to the membership doubling campaign. In his opening remarks, Lee said, "The Korea Senior Citizens Association is pursuing the membership doubling campaign as a priority project to further strengthen its status and influence as an organization representing Korea's senior citizens." He added, "The good results achieved in this year's first membership doubling campaign were thanks to the strong will of federation and branch chapter chairs, and the active participation of staff and senior center chairs." He continued, "The central association will continue to evaluate monthly membership growth performance and provide rewards based on results," and said, "We will push the membership doubling campaign even more strongly, with a goal of reaching 8 million members by September."
The Korea Senior Citizens Association is holding membership doubling campaign awards ceremonies and meetings in sequence for federations and branch chapters nationwide at its Taepyeong office in Booyoung Taepyeong Building, Jung-gu, Seoul. Following the Seoul regional event last month on the 29th, the Gyeonggi regional event was held on the 30th. The events proceeded in the order of reporting on the campaign's progress, awards ceremonies for outstanding federations and branch chapters, explanations of business plans, and meetings on measures to boost activity.
According to the Korea Senior Citizens Association, the first membership doubling campaign, conducted over four months from February 11 to June 20 this year, brought in 149,872 new members, including 65,528 full members and 84,344 general members. As a result, total membership rose to 3,347,628, accounting for about 30% of the total senior population.
Rewards based on performance were also paid out. A total of 180 million won was disbursed, including approximately 156 million won to branch chapters and approximately 16 million won to federations. Among branch chapters with a membership enrollment rate of 50% or higher as of February 11 this year, 11 chapters with high new membership enrollment rates were awarded a separate incentive totaling 6 million won.
