Lotte Members said Monday it has partnered with UnionPay International to launch "L.POINT Global Membership," a program targeting Chinese tourists.
The company opened a global membership introduction and sign-up page for local Chinese customers the same day. Chinese tourists can join L.POINT before visiting Korea using only email verification from their home country. After arriving in Korea, they can receive points and discount benefits via mobile at major shopping channels including Lotte Department Store, Lotte Duty Free, and Lotte Mart, without any separate procedures.
Lotte Members plans to conduct marketing based on nationality, age, and spending patterns by analyzing accumulated global membership data. The goal is to encourage repeat visits, going beyond simple one-time shopping benefits. After opening a promotional page for local Japanese customers in June, Lotte Members expanded to China this month.
This strategy is aligned with the rapidly expanding trend of spending by foreign visitors to Korea. Shopping by foreign tourists visiting Korea has surged recently. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, foreign tourists' domestic card spending in May this year reached 2.1 trillion won, up 67.1% from the same month a year earlier.
"We hope this will serve as a catalyst to accelerate the growth of the inbound tourism market," a Lotte Members official said.
