Choi Young-keun, a third-generation member of SK's (034730) founding family and the eldest grandson, has reportedly returned to SK Inc., the group's holding company, after five years.
According to business sources on the 18th, Choi has been working as head of the heritage team at SK Inc. since September last year. He is responsible for planning and managing cultural and artistic activities utilizing assets such as Seonhyewon — the private residence and personal research center of the late SK Group founding chairman Choi Jong-keon — and SK's old family residence.
The assignment is seen as reflecting Choi's major and career, having graduated from Parsons School of Design in the United States and worked as an intern at the local fashion brand Vera Wang.
Choi is the grandson of the first chairman and the only son of Choi Yoon-won, chairman of SK Chemicals (285130), who died in 2000. He worked at SK Discovery (006120), an intermediate holding company of SK Group, from 2014, but in 2019 was sent to trial on charges of habitually using variant drugs including cannabis cookies and liquid cartridges. He was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years.
As of the end of the first quarter this year, Choi holds a 5.32% stake in SK Discovery, an intermediate holding company of SK Group, and a 0.2% stake in SK Inc.
