
Kolon Industries (120110) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Seoul for industry-academia cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and materials, the company said Monday. The agreement, signed Sunday, aims to strengthen competitiveness in future advanced technologies and cultivate core specialized talent.
The agreement was designed to secure next-generation industrial growth engines by combining the university's research capabilities with the company's global technology infrastructure.
The two institutions will pursue the establishment of a joint research system for industry-academia cooperation in AI and materials, the sharing of the latest technology and advanced industry information, the joint use of university research infrastructure and corporate technology resources, and the cultivation of specialized talent based on AI convergence.
Under the agreement, Kolon Industries plans to combine its in-house high-performance materials development technology with the University of Seoul's cutting-edge AI research capabilities, including deep learning and machine information.
The company will also accelerate AX (AI transformation) in the new materials development process. Kolon Industries is actively using AI across various research and development (R&D) areas, including information research, semantic interpretation, deriving insights for integrated analysis of internal data, and securing materials simulation and prediction models.
In addition, beyond research cooperation, the two institutions will jointly establish a system for cultivating specialized talent that can be deployed immediately to industrial sites.
"We will closely cooperate with the University of Seoul's excellent research infrastructure to accelerate new materials development and secure new growth engines that will lead the market," Kolon Industries CEO Heo Sung said.
