Doosan Enerbility (034020.KS) has secured a large-scale order in the Middle East's gas-fired combined-cycle power plant market.
Doosan Enerbility said Tuesday it had signed a contract worth approximately 530 billion won with a consortium led by Korea Western Power to build the Duqm gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Oman.
For the project, Doosan Enerbility has formed a consortium with SEPCO3, a power plant construction specialist, to carry out the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work in full. The company also plans to directly manufacture and supply the steam turbine and generator, the plant's core equipment. Construction is targeted for completion in 2029.
The plant will be built in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, about 550 kilometers south of Oman's capital Muscat, with a generation capacity of 870 megawatts (MW). Once completed, it is expected to help meet rising electricity demand in southern Oman and improve the stability of power supply.
The project owner is a consortium consisting of Korea Western Power, Qatar's Nebras Power, EUDC—a development and investment subsidiary of the UAE's Etihad Water and Electricity—and Oman's Bahwan Infrastructure Services (BIS). Doosan Enerbility won the project based on its EPC expertise and experience supplying power generation equipment.
"We won this project based on the project execution experience and EPC capabilities we have accumulated in the Middle East," said Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility's Plant EPC BG. "As demand for power plant construction to ensure stable electricity supply is expected to continue in Oman and the broader Middle East, we will expand additional business opportunities through successful execution of this project."
