Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the memory shortage will continue for the next several years.
Speaking to reporters during a "chicken and beer" meeting with SK (034730) Group Chairman Chey Tae-won at the Kkanbu Chicken Samsung branch in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Sunday, Huang said, "Demand is enormous. Everything across the entire industry supply chain—from wafers to silicon photonics to cable connectors—is in short supply."
He praised Korea as "a partner in building the artificial intelligence (AI) era together." He added, "Nvidia's AI supercomputers carry enormous amounts of HBM and LPDDR. In the second half of this year, we will achieve much greater growth than in the first half, and we will continue very substantial growth through next year."
He again mentioned what he described as the four gifts he brought to Korea during this visit—the next-generation AI accelerator "Vera Rubin," the Vera central processing unit (CPU), Nvidia's first AI laptop lineup "RTX Spark," and "Jetson Thor," an AI edge supercomputer designed for next-generation humanoid robots and physical AI—signaling the possibility of expanded cooperation with domestic semiconductor companies.
Huang also announced a meeting with Samsung Electronics (005930) Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun on Monday. Asked about his plans to visit the Samsung Group, he replied, "I am looking forward to meeting YH tomorrow." He revealed that he had a separate dinner a few weeks ago in California with Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee, who is currently out of the country on overseas engagements.
