LG Electronics will display a video urging participation in climate change action on its outdoor billboards at landmarks in New York and London. Through this, the company plans to continue its global social contribution program, "LG Hope Screen."
LG Electronics said Saturday that it will screen a World Environment Day commemorative video produced by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on Friday on its outdoor billboards operating at Times Square in New York and Piccadilly Circus in London.
The video shows climate change through wildfires, heat waves, and shrinking glaciers, while introducing efforts to address climate change such as renewable energy transition and forest restoration. It also delivers the message "Now is the time for climate action (#NowForClimate)."
Since 2011, LG Electronics has continued the activity of screening public interest videos from international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on billboards operating at landmarks in New York and London. At 28 business sites in Korea and abroad, employees are also taking part in various activities from April to June, including river cleanups and coral reef planting.
Employees working at LG Smart Park in Changwon visited Jinhae Marine Park this month, walking along the beach to collect trash in a beach cleanup activity. Employees working at LG Digital Park in Pyeongtaek visited nearby rivers to carry out water purification activities, removing pollutants accumulated on the riverbed.
Members of the Malaysia subsidiary conducted waste appliance collection, while in Mexico tree-planting activities took place. The Indonesia subsidiary plans to carry out coral reef planting to restore marine ecosystems on a beach near its business site.
