As "value-for-money spending" spreads amid high inflation, Daiso, a fixed-price household goods retailer, is rapidly absorbing demand for ultraviolet (UV) protection products this summer.
Daiso has recently expanded its presence in the beauty category, quickly drawing in younger consumers. Last year, sales in Daiso's cosmetics category rose about 70 percent from a year earlier, and in January through April this year, sales also increased about 30 percent compared with the same period last year.
Recently, following basic and color cosmetics, the company has expanded into seasonal beauty products such as sunscreen, sun sticks and sun cushions. According to Daiso, sales of sun care products rose about 100 percent from the first to the 28th of last month. This appears to reflect the trend of spreading value-for-money spending driven by prolonged high inflation.

Meanwhile, Daiso is holding a "Daiso-DAY Popular Beauty New Releases" event on Daisomall. The event runs from the 8th to the 12th. Daisomall will present about 290 items, including new beauty products and popular brand goods.
This event consists of a "Beauty Brand New Products" corner, which unveils new products every day at 9 a.m., and an "MD PICK Brand" corner, which gathers popular brands. Participants include Bonsep, Prelude, Dinto, Klavuu, To/Edit and Mamicare.
Daisomall will also introduce products from brands that have recently drawn attention, such as Fucidum and Kim Jeong Moon Aloe. The lineup centers on products with high summer demand, such as dermocosmetics and cooling sun sticks.
The "Summer Beauty Items" corner suggests sun care, waterproof lip and eye, and cooling and deodorant products by category. Brand-specific events for customers who write reviews will also be held. An Asung Daiso official said, "We have created a venue where customers can meet new products from popular beauty brands," adding, "We will continue to present events that enhance the fun and satisfaction of shopping."
