Jeju Air (089590.KS), marking its 20th anniversary, has surpassed 137 million cumulative passengers.
Jeju Air said Thursday that its cumulative passengers totaled 137.55 million as of the end of last month.
In 2006, its first year of operation, annual passengers reached 250,000, before exceeding 10 million in 2017 in a sharp growth trajectory. Passengers temporarily declined during the COVID-19 pandemic but recovered to the 10 million level in 2023. In July of the same year, the carrier became the first Korean low-cost carrier (LCC) to surpass 100 million cumulative passengers.
After introducing the B737-800NG aircraft in 2008, Jeju Air has maintained a single fleet type to secure cost competitiveness. More recently, it has been pursuing fleet modernization by switching to the next-generation B737-8, which offers higher fuel efficiency. Jeju Air operates a total of 44 passenger aircraft.
Jeju Air currently operates 64 routes, comprising 7 domestic routes and 57 routes in the Asia-Pacific region. It operates mainly medium- and short-haul routes such as Japan, Greater China, and Southeast Asia, while running flexible operations in line with market demand. Specifically, it has operated chartered routes following China's visa-free policy, and in Japan it has expanded routes to Shizuoka, Matsuyama, Hiroshima, and Kobe, in addition to Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
"We have grown over 20 years by securing cost competitiveness and operational efficiency," a Jeju Air official said. "Through fleet modernization and efficient route operations, we will strengthen our foundation for sustainable growth."
