Taihan Cable & Solution is accelerating its push into Europe, a key market, after winning a multi-billion-won contract to supply extra-high-voltage cables in the U.K.
Taihan said on the 4th that it had secured a 65 billion won extra-high-voltage cable system supply project in Scotland. The company will participate in a 132-kilovolt (㎸) transmission line construction project led locally by global infrastructure group Balfour Beatty, delivering the extra-high-voltage cables required for the site.
Scotland faces significant risks of power supply disruptions due to bad weather and unexpected situations. Ensuring the stability of the power grid is therefore critical, and this contract recognizes Taihan's capabilities in the field. Taihan had previously successfully carried out major power grid projects in the U.K., including the "London Power Tunnel Phase 2," demonstrating its technological prowess and quality competitiveness to local players.
Including this project, Taihan secured four orders worth a combined 100 billion won in the U.K. alone in the first half of this year. The company plans to expand its extra-high-voltage cable business across Europe, using the U.K. as a base. Europe's cable market has been expanding rapidly recently, driven by overlapping demand for renewable energy and the replacement of aging power grids.
Taihan completed its first submarine cable plant last year and broke ground on a second, and is also pursuing power grid projects for offshore wind, a leading source of renewable energy.
A Taihan official said, "Europe is a strategic market where demand for underground and submarine cables is rapidly increasing amid power grid expansion and the growth of renewable energy," adding, "Based on our experience and technology, we will increase orders in Europe and other global markets and contribute to the global energy transition and power grid stabilization."
