The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) is accelerating efforts to advance its rail safety management system using artificial intelligence (AI).
TS held the "Symposium for Strengthening Cooperation Among Rail Safety Management System Agencies" on Tuesday at Hotel Intercity in Daejeon, together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and 27 rail-related organizations including Korea Railroad Corp. and Seoul Metro.
Participating agencies shared cases of AI-based rail safety. The cases introduced included building a rail safety accident prevention system using AI CCTV, preemptive preventive maintenance through an AI-based train failure analysis platform, and a platform for inspecting key train equipment using vision AI.
Participants reviewed the results of accident risk prediction and safety management efficiency gains using AI, and explored ways to expand future applications, including improvements to rail approval and inspection systems. Safety management measures in line with the expansion of tram operations were also discussed.
"We are creating a preemptive and scientific rail safety management environment by expanding advanced technologies such as AI," TS Chairman Jung Yong-sik said. "Through continued cooperation with related agencies, we will build a safe rail usage environment."
