Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical (185750.KS) said Thursday it has launched "Esoduo Mini," a smaller-sized formulation of its gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment "Esoduo S."
Esoduo Mini was developed to ease the dosing burden for GERD patients who require long-term medication. The product features a tablet smaller than the existing version, reducing the discomfort patients feel when swallowing and improving dosing convenience.
The product has been certified as bioequivalent to Esoduo S 20/700mg. By halving the content of esomeprazole and sodium bicarbonate, the main ingredients of Esoduo S, and miniaturizing the formulation, the company has improved medication adherence.
Esoduo is a combination drug pairing esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), with sodium bicarbonate, an antacid. Sodium bicarbonate rapidly raises the acidity level in the stomach, preventing esomeprazole from breaking down in the acidic environment. This maintains the gastric acid suppression effect while accelerating the onset of efficacy. Esoduo reaches peak blood concentration within 30 minutes of administration, providing rapid relief from GERD symptoms.

"By strengthening the Esoduo brand lineup, we will maximize synergy with existing products and expand the digestive disease treatment market."
