A Twosome Place has expanded its "Spoonable Abak" lineup with the launch of two summer products: Spoonable Choco Crunch Abak and Spoonable Strawberry Choco Crunch Abak.
The new products are designed to enhance textural enjoyment. The cakes layer Abak's signature thick and creamy cream and cookies in a marble pattern, with crunchy chocolate balls added on top. By incorporating chocolate balls that crunch lightly in the mouth, the company focused on maximizing the "crispy texture" beloved by Generation Z and the fun of eating.
The lineup consists of two of the most popular flavors: chocolate and strawberry chocolate. The Spoonable Choco Crunch Abak combines the popping texture of crunch chocolate balls with mascarpone chocolate cream and black cookies. The rich chocolate flavor paired with the chewy element allows consumers to enjoy the existing Abak's thick appeal in a more multidimensional way.
The Spoonable Strawberry Choco Crunch Abak layers white vanilla chocolate cream and berry compote in a marble form. The refreshing strawberry flavor, sweet cream and crunchy chocolate balls deliver a taste that is both fresh and sweet.
Upon actual tasting, both new products delivered Abak's signature coolness and sweetness as well as a crispy texture. However, the sweetness felt somewhat excessive, requiring an iced Americano to neutralize (?) it. While this reporter typically finishes a single slice of cake from other cafe brands easily, the Abak's large size and sweetness made it somewhat challenging to finish a single piece alone. Both new products are priced at 7,500 won, more expensive than the bestselling "Spoonable Abak" (6,500 won) but cheaper than the "Spoonable Du-Abak" (8,800 won).
Launched in 2015, the Spoonable Abak is a reinterpretation of the "ice box" cake, which originated in American households in the 1920s when refrigerators became widely available, with cookies and cream layered together and stored cold for easy eating. A defining feature is that the cake is eaten with a spoon rather than a fork. A Twosome Place's Spoonable Abak series has established itself as the brand's signature steady seller, with approximately 6 million units sold annually. Cumulative sales have surpassed 45 million units to date.
