Park Min-woo, head of Hyundai Motor Group's Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) division and CEO of 42dot, said Tuesday that the company will develop its generative artificial intelligence (AI) agent "Gleo AI" into "a personalized AI that understands users' behavior and preferences to help them with what they need without being asked."
Unveiling the detailed technology embedded in Gleo AI, Park said, "Gleo AI is a 'mobility companion that reduces my effort,' and we will advance it to perform more functions naturally and understand context going forward."
Gleo AI is a generative AI developed by 42dot, the global software center of Hyundai Motor (005380). Unlike mobile services such as Apple's Siri or Samsung Galaxy's Bixby, it is a voice assistant developed specifically for vehicle environments. Development began in 2024, and the AI was first installed in "The New Grazia," which Hyundai launched this month.
Vehicle occupants can control major functions of the car, from setting navigation destinations to climate control, through conversations with Gleo AI without pressing a separate button. For example, if a driver says, "Gleo, it's too dark," the brightness of the interior lighting is adjusted.
"Gleo AI enables natural communication, like talking with a person, and can provide information or directly control various functions according to user requests," a 42dot official said.
Gleo AI goes beyond simply executing commands by recognizing the speaker's location and considering driving conditions to comprehensively understand the user's intent. Because it can analyze conversations with the driver and the current driving location, it can understand abstract expressions such as "there" or "around here."
To implement these features, 42dot said it designed Gleo AI to selectively utilize various large language models (LLMs) according to processing stages, including understanding, judgment, and response generation.
42dot said it has separately built a knowledge agent to provide up-to-date information through Gleo AI. The knowledge agent enables Gleo AI to comprehensively utilize the web and its own data to search for necessary information in real time. 42dot plans to continuously improve Gleo AI through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
