Apartment complexes equipped with storage vaults capable of housing high-value artworks are set to emerge in Korea.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720.KS) announced Tuesday that it will introduce an "art storage vault" within an apartment complex for the first time among Korean builders, partnering with Seoul Auction Blue, an affiliate of Seoul Auction, the top player in Korea's art auction market.
The art storage vault is a reinterpretation of professional art preservation facilities used in museums and galleries, adapted for residential communities. Equipped with temperature and humidity controls, security systems and specialized movable installations, the vault allows residents to safely store their own artworks or those of their acquaintances. Beyond simple storage, the system is linked to digital exhibition spaces, market valuation services and sales channels.
The company will also operate an art concierge service. The program will cover art consignment, transportation, insurance, purchases and collateral loans, along with global luxury art tours, exhibitions of works by emerging artists, auction events and a collector academy.
Hyundai E&C will also adopt the "SAI (Seoul Auction Intelligence)" service developed by Seoul Auction Blue. Its core functions include art market valuation, market information delivery, and one-on-one in-depth consultations with art specialists. The service will first be applied at the "The H Daechi Edel Lui" complex through "My The H App," an integrated residential platform exclusive to residents of Hyundai E&C's high-end housing brand "The H."
Hyundai E&C plans to roll out the art storage vault service sequentially across major premium complexes, starting with Hyundai Apartments in the Apgujeong 3 redevelopment district. The likelihood of its introduction at the Apgujeong 5 district, where bidding competition is fierce, is also high.
"The private art storage vault is not merely an auxiliary facility but a differentiated residential service that manages residents' tastes and assets together," a Hyundai E&C official said. "We will continue to unveil innovative community content that reflects customers' lifestyles."
