
Jusung Engineering (036930.KQ) surged more than 20% in early trading on news that it would supply atomic layer growth (ALG) manufacturing equipment to a global semiconductor company for the first time in the world. Buying interest is interpreted as flowing in as a commercial supply case for next-generation deposition technology was confirmed amid growing demand for ultra-fine process equipment driven by the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
According to the Korea Exchange on Tuesday, Jusung Engineering was trading at 168,900 won as of 9:49 a.m., up 28,700 won, or 20.47%, from the previous session. The stock at one point jumped to 178,200 won, approaching its upper limit of 182,200 won.
The rally was driven by the shipment of next-generation semiconductor equipment. Jusung Engineering said it held a shipment ceremony to supply ALG manufacturing equipment to a global semiconductor company for the first time in the world. ALG equipment is an evolution of existing atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment and is used to improve thin-film uniformity and yield in ultra-fine semiconductor processes.
ALD stacks atomic layers one by one. ALG, by contrast, allows atoms to bond on their own, maintaining density and uniformity even in the limited space within a wafer. As semiconductor circuit linewidths narrow and three-dimensional vertical stacking structures expand, securing uniformity in deposition processes becomes more difficult, which is interpreted as fueling expectations for greater demand for related equipment.
Expanding demand for AI chips has also stimulated investor sentiment. High-performance AI computing requires highly integrated semiconductors, which in turn makes precision process technology for next-generation transistors and vertical stacking structures increasingly important. Jusung Engineering explained that ALG technology enables uniform thin-film growth and deposition even in vertical stacking structures.
The market is paying attention to the fact that this supply carries the character of technology validation. Since actual equipment has been delivered to a global semiconductor company, expectations are rising for additional orders during the transition to ultra-fine processes. Jusung Engineering expects ALG technology to be applied not only to semiconductors but also to display and solar equipment.
