The redevelopment of Daechi Sunkyung Apartment in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, has finalized its improvement plan and entered full-scale implementation. The aging complex at the Daechi Station intersection will be reborn as a large development reaching up to 49 floors, ushering in significant changes to the area's skyline as a new landmark of Daechi Station.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday that the "Daechi Sunkyung Apartment Redevelopment Improvement Plan" was approved with revisions at the 7th Urban Planning Committee Authorization Subcommittee meeting held on the 14th.
Built in 1983, Daechi Sunkyung Apartment will be redeveloped into a complex of up to 49 floors with a total of 1,571 units under the new improvement plan. Of these, 231 units will be designated as public rental housing.
The improvement plan was finalized about nine months after the Rapid Integrated Planning advisory meeting began in August last year. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to develop the site as a high-end residential complex leveraging its waterfront location along Yangjae Stream and its proximity to Daechi Station.
The plan also includes pedestrian safety measures considering the site's adjacency to Daechi Elementary School. A linear cultural park will be created on the western side of the complex to secure school commuting routes for students, alongside open-access communal facilities such as a small library, daycare center, and community care center.
In particular, a reservoir of approximately 36,000 cubic meters will be installed beneath the cultural park to mitigate flood damage in the Daechi Station area during heavy rainfall.
Along Samseong-ro on the eastern side of the complex, sidewalk-style frontage and open public spaces will be created to enhance the pedestrian environment and openness.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government emphasized that it plans to swiftly finalize the architectural plan through integrated deliberation, reflecting the results of this review.
