Eastar Jet has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as a full member, the budget carrier said Tuesday.
IATA is the world's largest aviation association, comprising 374 airlines from 129 countries. It plays a pivotal role in the global aviation industry, setting and managing international standards and regulations across air transport while assigning airline-specific codes such as Eastar Jet's "ZE."
Eastar Jet obtained the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification, a prerequisite for IATA full membership, in December last year and received official approval as a full member on the 4th.
The carrier plans to use its IATA full membership to strengthen cooperation with global airlines and further enhance its safe operation system in line with international standards.
"Joining IATA as a full member carries great significance as it represents official international recognition of our safety and operational systems," Eastar Jet CEO Cho Joong-seok said. "We will continue to elevate ourselves into an airline that earns greater trust from customers, based on safe operation capabilities that meet international standards."
